Speaking the Truth
Posted March 4, 2012, 11:00 AM ET

I heard an interview last week in Chicago, where loudmouth Charles Barkley crossed the line and told the truth.

He mentioned that his buddy Michael Jordan is the reason the Charlotte Bobcats are a mess.

There are two places in the country where it is a cardinal sin to be critical of MJ...one is Chicago, and the other is in Charlotte.

I haven't seen or heard one media person criticize Michael Jordan's handling of this franchise....local radio and TV continue to kiss his Hanes and tell him how cool and great he was in the 80's and 90's as a player.

All of that rhetoric would be true, except there's only one problem.....it's 2012, and Jordan is pretending to be a basketball executive for the Charlotte Bobcats.

The team is so bad, that the only thing saving them is that it's March, and real basketball fans are concentrating on the "Madness", not his "Airness".

The Bobcats have already lost 8 games this season by 30 or more points.....the last team to post that kind of ineptitude was the 76ers, back in 1993. Now keep in mind, the Bobcats have reached that number after just 34 games.....winning only 4 of them.

But, back to Barkley...he is the first guy (other than me) that has called out MJ and claimed that the King isn't wearing any clothes. Good for Sir Charles, to tell the truth, and quit sucking up like a Bobcats executive meeting or a Charlotte media session.

Enough is enough.

I thought the new "Face of NASCAR" did a nice job in Phoenix during the Nationwide race of getting out of the way of the leaders.

Danica deserves some praise when she doesn't screw up, too.

I thought she was outstanding not wrecking her car, or being wrecked....maybe she'll get a handle on this stock car racing, after all.....I mean she did finish in 21st place, and only 3 laps behind winner Elliott Sadler.

Nice job, "Face".....keep up the good work.

Bounty in the NFL?

I'm shocked.

Really? NFL players getting their juices going wanting to take out a star QB or WR....say it ain't so?

Come on.....is anybody surprised with the news surrounding Gregg Williams and the New Orleans Saints, claiming that there were bounties placed on players and types of hits/plays to the opposition?

Not me.

I have been surprised that some folks in the media are acting like this is barbaric and completely outrageous. Hey folks, this is a violent game played by men that feast on contact and physicality.

Need a buddy...buy a dog.

I'm not telling you that what took place with the Saints is right....I'm telling you that you shouldn't be a bit shocked or outraged.

The NFL game is for tough guys....no dresses (or Danica T's) allowed.....unless you kick for a living.

I know in this PC world where NFL Commish Roger Goodell has gone overboard in trying to clean up the game and eliminate violent helmet-to-helmet hits...this story will make him cringe.

But anybody that follows the game should not even blink about any detail involving the Saints' bounties.

In the same breath, it shouldn't shock or surprise you when the NFL suits penalize the Saints for playing dirty, either.

The Madness is almost here.....the major conference tournaments take place this week, and there is still a bunch at stake.

If UNC plays as motivated and focused as they did in beating up the Blue Devils, they should join the conversation with Kentucky and Syracuse as the teams to beat in New Orleans.

Kansas is really good, too....and they have been more consistent than UNC.....but the Heels and Kentucky have the most talented teams.

It's impossible to make any predictions until you see the pairings and break down the match-ups.....and I'll do that next week, when the selections are officially made next Sunday.

As for Duke....they can still slide into a #1 seed......but they will have to win the ACC Tourney and hope that Michigan State and Kansas fall short in their conference tourneys, too.

You should never count out Coach K at the ACC Tourney.....he lives for it, and the numbers don't lie. Duke has owned the ACC Tournament, this century.

Roy Williams' famous "cocktail party" line about the ACC Tourney needs to be mentioned this week.....because if Roy's Heels are unfocused this week, they might find themselves back as a # 2 seed. Something tells me that his kids will be ready.
