Offensive Minded

It was quite a week for the "Politically Correct" crowd...and before I go any further, I should let you know that I have very little patience or respect for those who fall under that category.

The fun started with my old man, Billy Packer. While my irascible father was being interviewed on the Charlie Rose Show, he let loose with an answer that included the term "fagged out". It seemed as if Rose and Packer were laughing at the exchange, but the left-wing, politically-correct, always-offended element of society was in shock and horror at the use of "fagged out".

There were pantywaists from newspapers like the Chicago Tribune to blowhards on ESPN Radio who were ready for a public execution. How could somebody like Billy Packer use such "homophobic" language in a public forum, especially on PBS?

The problem for the knee-jerks is that Billy Packer actually used the term correctly in the context of his answer on PBS. The term means to work or tire to the point of exhaustion. It almost hurts me to defend the old man, because I like getting on his case so much on my radio show, but this is a no-brainer.

One of the lead "knee-jerks" was Keith Olbermann. The star of the fledgling MSNBC show was looking for a swift action by CBS to get rid of, or eliminate Billy from the network broadcasts because of the outlandish comment during the Rose interview.

Leave it Olbermann to try to generate some pub....God knows, he needs it. The last time I heard about Olbermann, he was being lit up like a Christmas tree by some woman that he met online. The woman commented in the NY Post that he under-performed in the sack and later had tons of excuses for why he couldn't hang around. Olbermann has dragged his sorry ass back to the Dan Patrick Radio Show on ESPN just so people can remember his name.

Needless to say, anybody with a Webster's Dictionary could look up the phrase and realize that it was perfectly fine, in how Packer used it on-air.

While that little bit of news made the rounds, there was more politically-incorrect verbiage flying, and this time it was on Olbermann's network, MSNBC.

It turns out that radio icon Don Imus had an exchange on his show that surrounded the NCAA Women's Finals between Rutgers and Tennessee. Imus was quoted as describing the Rutgers women's team as a bunch of "nappy-headed ho's".

At the time, I'm sure that went over well with the network execs and the folks involved with Rutgers and the NCAA. During the same on-air dialogue, another member of the broadcast compared the game between Rutgers and Tennessee as "The Jigaboos vs. The Wannabes"....hmmm, I sense some people getting bent out of shape with that verbal volley.

What's ironic about this exchange on the Don Imus Show and MSNBC, is that I didn't hear the bombastic Keith Olbermann one time demand that his "morning show host" be fired or replaced. Perhaps Keith was too outraged by Billy Packer's homophobic rant, or maybe Keith was too busy finding his next sexual conquest online. Better yet, maybe he was updating his resumé. It doesn't take an ex-sleeping pal to realize that Olbermann didn't have the balls to take on one of his own at MSNBC.

For the record, Imus apologized the next day for his stupid and idiotic comments. It should also be noted that Packer didn't apologize for his remark, and he even stated that he would use the term again under the right circumstances.

Don't think that the guys were having all the fun in the "Politically Incorrect Olympics" this past week. Even Tennessee women's coach Pat Summit got into the mix.

After winning her seventh national title with the Lady Vols, the Hall of Fame coach had a surprise for her assistant coaches when the team arrived back from the championship game.

At the Lady Vols' victory celebration in Knoxville, Summit unveiled new Mercedes SLK 280 roadsters for her assistant coaches. That's a pretty impressive perk for a woman's basketball program, but there was even more fun to be had by all.

One of the assistant coaches is a guy by the name of Dean Lockwood. Needless to say, Lockwood along with the other assistants were shocked and joyful at the new rides. Summit then announced to the boisterous crowd: "Maybe Dean can find a woman."

Damn...that's funny. It's too bad he didn't have the guts to tell Summit what she could do with her German engineering, but let's be honest: nobody bags more babes than the Head Coach....and that even includes the lady killer himself, Keith Olbermann.

For the record: Summit didn't apologize for her remarks, and Olbermann was last seen logging onto the internet.
