Finally. Fowler....

The Wells Fargo Championship finished up at beautiful Quail Hollow, and for the third time in the tournament's history, the event produced a first-timer on the PGA Tour.

This time, the honor goes to Rickie Fowler.

You might have seen Fowler promoted and hyped as the next big thing on the PGA Tour....you certainly couldn't miss his vibrant fashion ensemble or his smoking-hot girlfriend.

Fowler's playoff victory over previous winner Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points marked a long overdue win.

Many golfing experts have pegged Fowler as the next big thing in American golf on the PGA Tour.

He finally found a way to close the deal at Quail Hollow. I'm sure the PGA Tour suits and even network hairdos are thrilled with the Fowler victory because the sport needs something while Tiger Woods looks for his swing, putter and apparently his ball.

Woods missed the cut for only the 8th time in his career.....and this marked the second time it's happened at Quail Hollow....in the process, a spectator stole his ball during Friday's 2nd round.

It's amazing that the two biggest sports icons in this country are probably Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.....Jordan has put his stamp on the Charlotte sports scene by delivering the worst NBA team ever and 25% of Woods' missed cuts have taken place in the Queen City.

I won't even mention that another sports icon that calls the Charlotte market home, Dale, Jr., has gone 139 races without a win.....but you get the point.

As for Fowler, I doubt the win and the handsome check will change his explosive outfits and Justin Bieber haircut.....the best thing about his win was the chance that America could catch more glimpses of his girlfriend.

If this keeps up, I might have to pay more attention to where he is on the leaderboard.

I just hope next year my man, Boo Weekley is ready to rock.....Quail Hollow is not the same without my man on the links.

Danica Patrick wrecked after the Nationwide race......

I know it's not newsworthy since she wrecks every week, but I figured you could include your own punch line here.

This week, the NASCAR crowd heads down to Darlington.

It's the "Lady in Black"....not to be confused with Danica, who is known as the "Lady in Back".

I hated to see the news and the video of New York Yankees reliever, Mariano Rivera, go down with a season-ending injury while shagging some fly balls before their game in Kansas City.

Rivera is the best ever, and if his career is over, it has been a pleasure watching a master at work.

He vows that he'll pitch again, and I hope he's right. But the injury to a pitcher at this stage of his career is troubling.

In the meantime, nobody is feeling sorry for the Yankees....I know it's early, and we've been playing for only a month....but the loss of a great closer is really tough.

I should know....as a San Francisco Giants fan, Brian Wilson's season-ending injury has put a damper on the season....and we still have a long ways to go.

I don't know much about horse racing, but I do know that I'd love to go to the Kentucky Derby someday.

With that said, can anybody tell me the last time the favorite won at Churchill Downs?

Maybe it was last year or recently....but it seems like every year, there is some upstart 3 year old horse that steals the show at the Derby.

This year, it was some 43-1 long shot by the name of "I'll Have Another" that stole the show in the "Run for the Roses".

I'm telling you, I've got to get to Churchill Downs....even if I don't see a horse or even take a sip of one of those Mint Juleps, it just looks like a great time.

I don't read the Charlotte Observer, but my wife does.

I saw the headline in Sunday's paper that read, "Bobcats' Next Coach Should Be a Teacher".

I wonder if the writer of the column ever heard of Larry Brown?
