99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall...

University of Georgia President Michael Adams is turning into a party pooper.

He has been on a tear lately, trying to clean up the image of the University of Georgia as a frat party gone wild. He is disgusted at the amount of alcohol that is consumed on campus and especially during a Bulldog football weekend in Athens. The president intends to do something about it.

The new regulations during gamedays in the fall on campus are putting a damper into the plans of thousands of Bulldog fans that enjoy making a Georgia football weekend a three day affair. The new policy allows the tailgating to begin at 7am on gamedays. If you've ever been to Athens for a college football weekend, you realize how out-of-kilter that rule is compared to the normal Bulldog football gathering.

If cleaning up the streets of Athens isn't a big enough chore, the big man on campus has a new target. Michael Adams is now on a new crusade to clean up the Georgia image and it surrounds one of the great football rivalries in the South.

Georgia vs. Florida in Jacksonville...better known as the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party".

Evidently, Dudley Do-right doesn't think the nickname is appropriate for the likes of the Georgia institution. He wants the SEC and CBS to eliminate the name from being used to describe the gathering of the red/black and the orange/blue at the old Gator Bowl.

He can't be serious?

I applaud the guy for trying to better his campus, and if he feels that alcohol is a problem, then so be it. But trying to stop a television network from using a term to describe one of the great spectacles in college football is embarrassing. The president should know better and he has overstepped his politically correct boundaries.

Does the anti-Budman believe that if CBS and the SEC refrains from the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" moniker, then there will be less liquor and alcohol bought and consumed in Jacksonville...or Athens...or Gainesville?

The Georgia-Florida football game is a big deal...it is a big business...and it is a big party. That isn't going to change anytime soon, and it certainly won't be affected by the tag or CBS' use of the description.

I've personally attended a few "Cocktail Party" games on our Southern Fried Football™ Tour, and the experience is incredible. It is one of the few football trips that I've attended that I never concerned myself with the game or even worrying about acquiring a ticket to the game. It was more fun outside the stadium watching and participating in the festivities.

When I read Adams' comments I couldn't help but wonder if the president has alcohol served in his skybox at Sanford Stadium? Do the president and the university accept any money from beer or alcohol sponsors on campus or on the school's radio and television programs?

If the answer is "yes" to either one of those two questions, he should hand in his resignation immediately. If the answer is "no", then he gets bonus points.

Adams was quoted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution saying, "There are better images...we requested they not use that nomenclature. The indication is they are sensitive to our concern."

Better images? I've got some better images for ya'...check 'em out. They are from a recent Southern Fried Football™ Tour trip to the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party"...Enjoy them before Michael Adams puts an end to the rivalry.
