Calvin and Friends

Calvin Brock remained undefeated by winning his bout against somebody named Timur Ibragimov.

The fight was a perfect remedy for sleep deprivation.

Personally, I like Calvin Brock. He seems like a great guy and his 29-0 record speaks volumes to his skills and the lack of talent in the heavyweight division. But the fight on HBO this past weekend was brutally boring....it was so bad, that I started looking for a replay of the Mexico-Argentina World Cup soccer match on Univision.

Brock's 29-0 is filled with wins over 225-pound tomato cans. Despite the lack of big-time wins, the biggest problem is that there is nothing of interest on the horizon. And that is the problem.

How can there be zero heavyweight fighters in the world that can grab our interest and attention?

It is one thing to laugh at the USA World Cup team because we are so inept against the world's best in soccer....but how is it possible not to find a guy on the planet that is 225 pounds and can flat-out fight? I just don't get it. Can you imagine how many millions of dollars that guy would make by being the baddest man on the planet in the heavyweight division...that is, of course, if he exists?

If you're Calvin Brock you just keep lining up non-descript boxers, and win. Eventually somebody will show up...at least I hope so. It's not Brock's fault that nobody seems to care. He has fought 29 guys and beaten every one of them. He doesn't knock anybody out, he just outlasts them. The object is to win...but does anybody notice?

I have no idea which stiff is up next for Brock, and he probably doesn't know either. I can't imagine anybody getting fired up for another Brock fight unless it involved one of those Klitschko guys....by the way, do they still fight?

Is it too late to bring Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson out of retirement? How about Holyfield? Or that English-fella with the Bob Marley locks? George Foreman might be 60 years-old, but he still has to be ranked in the Top 10.

Maybe it is time to start the Senior Heavyweight Boxing Tour. One-round, 3 minutes...and Calvin Brock gets dibs on the winner. Better yet, put all of them in the ring at the same time against Brock...make it a WWE-style battle royal. Now that would draw some interest.

I'm hoping Brock gets his big break and glamour fight against an opponent that generates some legitimate interest. Brock has earned that right, and so have heavyweight boxing fans.

In the meantime, the "Boxing Banker" will keep on depositing checks and lousy fighters.
