Silence is Golden

Let the world rejoice in the peaceful tranquility!

The World Cup is over....no more vuvuzelas. At least, until some struggling college decides to give out the horns as a promotional gimmick. It seems perfect for a Duke football game.

In addition to the lack of buzzing coming from South Africa, we also have the official end of the LeBron James "decision" saga. In your life, have you ever witnessed a more over-hyped event?

It was utterly embarrassing, for all parties involved. I'm just glad it's over.

After James' announcement, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert made a complete fool of himself....and just when I thought it was over, then we had the unveiling of the "Big Three" in Miami.

Oh My God...

Tell me I didn't hear James proclaim that the reason he's going to South Beach is to win "five, six, maybe seven" titles?

Hey, LeBron...try winning one, before running off at the mouth. Just when I thought Dan Gilbert was a moron for predicting that Cleveland would win a title before the "former King" will....James pops off at the lips with his proclamation.

I guess LeBron should be reminded of an ESPN Magazine interview he conducted in 2006, when he stated that he wouldn't be a ring-chaser, and he wanted to win championships in Cleveland.

I know that the city of Cleveland and the folks at NIKE are wondering what to do with the giant mural of King James. I have a suggestion. Put it to good use by using it as a tarp for the upper decks at all the Cavs games next year, and for the years to come. When the season ends, you can use it at Indians games, too.

Thank goodness this fiasco has come to an end.

Danica Patrick is on fire.....she actually finished 24th this past weekend, in the Nationwide Series race.

That's pretty impressive, considering she had not cracked the Top 30 in her four previous starts. It was such a good night for Danica, that she didn't even wreck the car...marking only the second time in five races she didn't deliver a torn-up race car back to Dale Jr.'s shop.

I must have been out of my mind when I stated earlier this year that she couldn't consistently compete in the Nationwide Series....What was I thinking?

If she keeps this up, she'll get her very own LeBron-like special on ESPN, promoting something that nobody gives a damn about.

We've reached the All-Star break in Major League Baseball, and as usual, there are some surprises and disappointments.

I also feel pretty good about my "Packman 9 List".

Every year before the start of the season, I pick 9 teams that have no shot at making the playoffs. Last year, I was 9-9, and the two years previous to that I missed one in each season.

2010 looks good, except for one pain in the ass squad, the San Diego Padres.

The Pads continue to win, despite not being able to hit the baseball....the good news for me is that they might play in the deepest division in baseball, the NL West. Between the red-hot Rockies, Dodgers and Giants, surely one or more of those teams will overtake them in the division.

The other 8 members of the Packman 9 are struggling: Washington, Pittsburgh, Houston, Baltimore, Toronto, Kansas City, Cleveland and Oakland look like they are out of the post-season discussion.
