I'm a Believer

Count me as one of the folks that wanted to see how Florida State QB sensation Jameis Winston would perform in front of a hostile environment.

Man, was he good or what? So were his teammates that lined up and ran over and around Clemson all night in front of a raucous crowd in Death Valley. The Noles beat the Tigers like they stole something.

I actually liked Clemson's chances going into the biggest game in ACC history....what was I thinking?

The Tigers have a good club....Florida State proved that they have an elite team.....big difference.

The win by FSU has put them into some prime real estate.

The first BCS Standings have been released and Bama is #1, followed up by FSU.

I can hear the Ducks quacking from here....Oregon is #3, but don't feel bad for Mark Helfrich's team. Oregon's strength of schedule is off the charts the rest of the way, and if they can win out....I believe Oregon will be playing for the national title.

After this past weekend in college football, anybody that thinks they know what's going to happen is a bona fide moron.

Teams ranked # 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 15 all lost.....welcome to college football. Every time you think you got it figured it, whammy....you get a curve ball.

A week ago, I thought Clemson would beat FSU....I thought LSU would beat Ole Miss.....I thought South Carolina would beat Tennessee....and I thought Georgia would handle Vandy. Lots of Southern Fried Football™ carnage on that list.

That's why I always preach on the air about enjoying each weekend....the journey is the best part. We'll worry about who is playing for crystal in Pasadena later in November and early December.

The World Series gets underway this week, and it's two teams that we've seen a bunch this time of year.

The Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Some people are tired of both of them....but if you love baseball, this should be a damn entertaining match-up.

I cannot tell you how much I loved watching the Redbirds eliminate the LA Dodgers.

It was a woodshed job that only Florida State could appreciate this past weekend.

I love the fact that a team tried to buy the championship....the Dodgers' 2013 payroll was last listed at 241,767,216 bucks...and it still didn't allow them to play in the World Series, much less win the championship.

I'm glad the Baseball Gods did their due diligence.

The cities of Boston and St. Louis have a true love affair and passion for the game of baseball and I respect that.

I really don't care who wins, but I've always rooted for the National League to capture the title. The last time that wasn't true, was 1988....the year of Kirk Gibson's fluke homer that jump-started the Dodgers' last title.

The key word is "last"....as in 25 years and counting.

So let the Fall Classic begin.

I know we're in the middle of a wild football season, but I do enjoy baseball....and both of these teams have earned the right to play for the trophy.

This will be the last time I type this during the baseball playoffs.....but I have to close with: "Beat LA".

I enjoyed the endless interviews last week for the ACC Basketball Media Day.

The conference now includes Pitt, Notre Dame and Syracuse for the upcoming basketball season.

After 46 interviews for SiriusXM, all I can tell you is that ACC basketball is going to be ridiculous....as in ridiculously good.

It has quality depth, great coaches and will provide some fantastic regular season match-ups.

The ACC media selected Duke as the team to beat followed up by newbie Syracuse and then UNC.

Remember, last season, the media pegged NC State as the team to beat.....as we all know, Miami dominated the regular season and the tournament.

You never know how stuff is going to play out, but old-school ACC hoop fans will need to warm up to the new additions......Pitt, Notre Dame and Syracuse are all bringing something to the hardwood this season.

Next Louisville joins the mix....wow....it is going to be rocking, this hoops season.

The Carolina Panthers have really looked good the last two weeks.

Cam Newton looks like he's in control....the defense continues to play well....and the team has a modest two-game winning streak.

There's better news on the immediate horizon....they get to play winless Tampa Bay this Thursday night.

A 3-game win streak in the works in Charlotte....it's just a matter of time before somebody starts talking Super Bowl again in the Queen City. Is it possible the Panthers can be above .500 heading into Halloween?

The answer is "Yep".

Of course, the most inconsistent team in football can screw it up before you say "playoffs"...but it has been nice to watch the team play solid football in back-to-back weeks.
