Street Turkeys Event
Delivers Food for the Hungry

The WFNZ Sports Radio 610 Street Turkeys event was a tremendous success! For the 5th straight year, WFNZ’s Mark “Packman” Packer has dedicated the day before Thanksgiving to alleviating hunger in our community. Throughout the day, listeners stopped by the WFNZ’s AT&T Dog House, to donate a total of 315 turkeys, over $19,000 in cash and 2,700 pounds of non-perishable food items all to benefit Loaves & Fishes and Community Food Rescue/Second Harvest Food Bank.

This year volunteers armed with buckets stood outside the Dog House at the corners of Mint and Morehead Streets to collect donations from passersby. Drivers passed cash and turkeys through their car windows to volunteers waiting to receive them. From families with children, including one child pulling a turkey in his red wagon, to sports enthusiasts to riders on CATs city buses, hundreds responded to the call to help feed the hungry. Thanks to the generosity of those who participated in the Street Turkeys drive, over 300 families had turkeys on Thanksgiving Day!

Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit emergency food pantry program that provides a week’s worth of nutritional groceries at no cost to individuals and families in Mecklenburg County who are experiencing a crisis.
